Chatakpur, a quaint eco-village nestled within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary near Darjeeling, offers a serene and immersive experience in the heart of the Eastern Himalayas. Unlike the bustling tourist spots, Chatakpur provides a tranquil retreat, allowing visitors to connect with nature and experience the authentic lifestyle of a small Himalayan community. Situated at an altitude of around 7,890 feet, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests, including glimpses of the majestic Kanchenjunga. The village is characterized by its rustic charm, with traditional wooden houses and a simple, sustainable way of life. The residents, primarily of Nepali origin, are deeply connected to the land and rely on eco-tourism and small-scale agriculture for their livelihood. The Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, surrounding Chatakpur, is a haven for biodiversity, home to various species of flora and fauna, including barking deer, Himalayan black bears, and numerous bird species. Trekking trails wind through the dense forests, offering opportunities for nature walks and birdwatching.
